Since our foundation in 1986, the Federation of European Tourist Guide Associations (FEG) has been shaped not only by time, but by people — by those who accepted the challenge and the responsibility to lead, to serve, and to believe in something greater than themselves, and in fact, to shape an entire profession.
This is a tribute.A tribute to the Presidents who, across the years, have dedicated their time, their energy and their hearts to building and strengthening our Federation and thus our profession quietly, always with commitment.
Each one, in their own way, has helped shape what FEG is today.
Today, under the presidency of Paulo Oliveira Cosme, this journey continues — with the same spirit of service, the same respect for the past, and the same commitment to the future.
To all those who have led FEG: this is a message of gratitude.
For your vision. For your dedication. For your belief in our profession.
Because FEG is not built by structures alone — it is built by people, by commitment, and by heart.
Since 1986, a legacy shaped by leadership, guided by values, and carried forward with heart.

As one of the founding figures of FEG, Richard Skinner is remembered above all as a visionary with the courage to believe in people. At a time when European cooperation in the guiding profession was still in its infancy, he saw beyond borders and differences, recognising that guides shared a common purpose. More than creating a structure, he created a spirit — one rooted in trust, professionalism, and the first steps towards shared standards of quality that would later define our profession.
Eduardo D’Amico led with quiet strength and a deeply human sense of responsibility. He understood that building a Federation meant caring for relationships, listening, and creating trust. Under his guidance, FEG became more than a network — it became a community. His work helped lay the foundations for a culture of quality and mutual respect that would later be reflected in European standards.
Annie Passot brought warmth, elegance, and a genuine care for people into her leadership. She believed that professionalism is not only about knowledge, but about how we relate to others. Through her commitment to dialogue and cooperation, she strengthened the human fabric of FEG, while contributing to the growing recognition that quality, training, and shared criteria are essential pillars of the guiding profession.
Tom Hooper guided FEG with steadiness and integrity at a time when balance was essential. His leadership was marked by a deep sense of duty — to the Federation, to its members, and to the profession itself. In maintaining continuity and focus, he helped preserve the values that underpin quality guiding, ensuring that the path towards structured standards and professional recognition remained clear and consistent.
Carlos Ortega brought energy, vision, and a strong belief in the future of the profession. He understood that visibility and recognition go hand in hand with quality. His presidency contributed to positioning guides within a more demanding and evolving tourism landscape, reinforcing the importance of clear standards, structured training, and the definition of excellence.
Efi Kalampoukidou led FEG with heart, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Her leadership was deeply human — always close to the members, always focused on unity. During a decade of challenges and transformation, she strengthened not only the Federation’s voice, but also its commitment to professionalism, quality, and recognition. Her legacy reflects a Federation that is stronger, more connected, and deeply grounded in shared values.
As the current President, Paulo Oliveira Cosme carries this legacy forward with respect and determination. With a deep belief in the value of the profession, his vision is rooted in quality, certification, and recognition. He stands for a future where guiding continues to be affirmed as a profession of excellence — built on knowledge, credibility, and pride, and shaped by those who dedicate themselves to it with passion and responsibility.
